Sport Mediaset correspondent Pietro Balzano Prota has revealed that Manchester United have beaten a number of top European clubs to the signing of Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes.
The 24-year-old has recently experienced a sensational season with Sporting where he amassed a staggering 32 goals and 18 assists across all competitions and this has caught the eye of Europe’s elite.
However, according to Prota, United seem destined to sign the playmaker and an agreement is likely to be announced in the forthcoming days with the final details left to be sorted.
United have lacked the presence of a creative midfielder in their ranks and last season saw them largely dependent on Paul Pogba, though the Frenchman lacked the consistency during the final stages of the campaign.
In Bruno, the Red Devils are set to have someone who has regularly featured in the attacking midfield role at Sporting and judging by the recent campaign, he should have the credentials to make the difference.
Fernandes was recently part of the Portuguese side for the Nations League finals and that may have delayed United’s quest to secure his signature ahead of the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
United are set to pay an initial £49m for the Portuguese midfielder while the remaining £21m will be settled in the form of performance-based add-ons.
