Done deal: Manchester United confirm agreement with 45-goal midfielder

Manchester United have confirmed that they have agreed a fresh contract extension with midfielder Juan Mata. The Spaniard’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the month but he has now penned an extension for the next two years with the option of a further 12 months.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce that Juan Mata has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the club until June 2021, with the option to extend for a further year,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

Mata has seen his gametime reduce in the past few campaigns with the club but he has still remained an influenced figure within the first-team setup where he has been admired for his efforts on and off the playing field.

At the age of 31, Mata still has plenty to offer for United despite the drop in performance levels and Ole has indicated that the same by suggesting that the midfielder’s attitude can set an example for younger players.

Mata has been with the Red Devils for the past five-and-a-half years and during this period, he has notched 45 goals and 37 assists from 218 appearances across all competitions.
