Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has heaped praise on one Red Devils player following the club’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils continued from the Tottenham Hotspur game with another brilliant counter-attacking display against the Cityzens and they should have comfortably scored more than two goals in the opening half.
In the second period, the focus was more on keeping the lead intact and they managed to do so despite witnessing a late scare after Nicolas Otamendi’s headed goal.
Speaking after the derby, Schmeichel was impressed with Daniel James whom he watched in close quarters from the stands and he hailed the work rate of the Welshman up and down the playing field.
“Today he was unbelievable, chasing every ball, he was in every counter-attack and, at the same time, he was doubling up with [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka on the right hand side. He’s played every single game this season and he’s still playing well. That’s a fantastic signing and he played fantastic today,” he told Premier League productions via Metro.
James was a relatively unknown when he was first signed by the Red Devils from Swansea City but he has certainly proved his credentials with a number of top notch displays.
Initially, there were concerns with regards to his crossing but he has shown tremendous improvement in the same and is currently an integral part of the starting lineup under Solskjaer.
James has contributed three goals and four assists in the Premier League this season. He has started in 15 of the club’s 16 top-flight matches. His only substitute appearance came on the opening day against Chelsea FC where he scored his maiden goal for the side.
