Manchester United receive big boost in signing £13.5m midfield star from Spanish giants

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in landing the signature of Arturo Vidal next month after manager Ernesto Valverde acknowledged that the club may need to reduce their options in the midfield department.

The Chile international made the surprise move to the Catalans from Bayern Munich last summer and he was in and out of the starting lineup through the 2018/2019 where the Blaugrana successfully defended their league title.

Things have, however, become worse this season with the summer arrival of Frenkie de Jong and the Chilean is currently behind the Dutchman, Arthur and Sergio Busquets in the pecking order for a midfield position.

To date, he has managed just three starts for the Spanish champions in all competitions and The Express claims that the midfielder could consider a move elsewhere when the transfer window reopens.

Vidal shares the same representative as Alexis Sanchez in Fernando Felicevich and reports have previously claimed that United have already made contact with the agent over a winter move for the Barcelona man.

At 32, Vidal won’t prove a long-term candidate to occupy the midfield but he certainly offers experience and has a knack of scoring goals – an attribute which may catch the eye of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The futures of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba continue to remain in doubt but the Chilean could replace the former, who appears determined to part ways with United at the turn of the year.

Vidal, who is valued at £13.5m via Transfermarkt, has bagged four goals for Barcelona in the league despite his limited playing time. He came close to joining United prior to his Bayern Munich move four years ago.
