Harry Maguire sends warning to Chelsea FC after Manchester derby win

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has said that the top four is in sight after back-to-back league victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City and they need to keep on winning to close the deficit on fourth-placed Chelsea FC.

The Red Devils were 10 points adrift of the Blues during the previous international break but that deficit has been halved with Frank Lampard’s side managing just one league win and three points from the past four games.

In the same period, United have been by far the better team with eight points and two victories, and that has put them within striking range of the Blues amid the busy festive schedule.

When pressed on United’s top-four prospects, Maguire admitted that the club are close to their desired aim and added that the team should focus on keeping the winning streak going rather than focusing on the results of their rivals ahead of them.

“The top four is in sight but we need to look after our own results and keep trying to get the three points, and keep improving. We’ve got another big game next week against Everton. We need to keep winning games. We’ve won back-to-back games against Spurs and City,” he said.

United’s next league game comes against Everton on the road and they could have a tricky challenge on their hands. The Toffees beat them by a comfortable 4-0 scoreline at Goodison Park last term and they have recently found momentum.

The Merseyside outfit registered a 3-1 win over Chelsea FC over the weekend and they will certainly pose a threat for United, who have tended to struggle against sides, who are prepared to sit back and defend in order negate their counter-attacking approach.
