Forget Mandzukic, Manchester United want to complete deal for two-time Premier League champion

Manchester United have reportedly shifted their attention away from Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic and they are now focused on signing former Premier League champion in Edin Dzeko.

Mandzukic has been heavily linked with the Red Devils since the summer and they have recently been claims that he could make the move to Old Trafford by December in order to acclimatise with the conditions.

However, ESPN reports that may not be the case with United reluctant to pursue the Croatian, who has failed to play a single minute of first-team football for Juventus this term.

Instead, they are looking to lure Dzeko from the ranks of AS Roma with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer particularly keen on adding more experience in the centre-forward department.

Dzeko, who has won two Premier League titles with Manchester City between 2011 and 2016, has proved a quality recruit for the Giallorossi since joining them on an initial loan in the summer of 2015.

He has amassed 93 goals from 193 appearances and his efforts were rewarded earlier in August where he was handed with a fresh three-year deal.

Mandzukic was touted as a potential backup option off the bench to supplement the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the attack and it remains to be seen whether Dzeko would entertain such a role.
