Frank Lampard confirms major injury boost with 28-year-old star available for Lille clash

Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard has dropped a major injury boost by confirming that midfielder N’Golo Kante will be in contention for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Lille on the road.

The Frenchman missed the recent league game against Brighton & Hove Albion with a minor hamstring niggle and Lampard thereafter indicated that the club need to be careful with the handling of the midfielder.

Initially, it was anticipated that the 28-year-old won’t be picked for the Lille game but Lampard has now dropped a positive update with the Frenchman likely to participate, provided he passes a late fitness test.

“He trained this morning and he got through training okay. He is still one we have to assess in the morning but we are positive he will be fit to play,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

Irrespective of this, it remains to be seen whether Lampard would be prepared to risk Kante in the starting XI, considering the Frenchman has suffered a couple of setbacks after returning early from injuries.

Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic have done a credible job as a midfield duo for the Blues this term and Lampard may decide to go with the additional attacker for the game before introducing Kante after the hour mark, if needed.
