Manchester United confident of striking deal for French attacker

Manchester United are reportedly growing confident of extending the contract of French forward Anthony Martial. The Frenchman currently has just eight months remaining on his current deal but the club do have the option of extending his contract by an additional year.

According to Metro, the Mancunian giants have begun taking steps to extend the Frenchman’s stay following his impressive start to the current season under Jose Mourinho. The attacker may have not started every league game for the Red Devils this term but he has impressed in stages which appears to have caught the attention of the United board.

The former Monaco man appeared to be sidelined from first-team action after he went AWOL during the birth of his second child during pre-season. However, he has since impressed with the limited gametime up for grabs and his standout performance came in the recent comeback win over Newcastle United where he scored a key equaliser in the 3-2 triumph.

Aside from Martial, United are also making progress with regards to the contract of Luke Shaw, whose deal expires at the end of the season. The Englishman has stood out in the club’s ranks this term by being the most consistent performer and this has bagged him the club’s Player of the Month award during each of the first two months of the season.
