Manchester United have received a positive boost in their quest to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam this summer.
The Red Devils endured a tough 2018/19 Premier League season where they finished a disappointing sixth, and much of that resulted from a leaky defence which conceded over 50 goals.
According to The Telegraph, the Red Devils are expected to strengthen their backline during their summer and they could possibly get their hands on one of their prime targets in De Ligt.
The Dutchman appeared primed to join Barcelona during this summer’s transfer window, but that does not seem the case so far with the Spanish champions yet to reach any sort of agreement with Ajax.
As such, The Telegraph claims that De Ligt could favour a move to Old Trafford despite the absence of Champions League football, considering he is keen on becoming the face of the club’s summer rebuild.
De Ligt’s valuation has risen with Ajax’s domestic double and their progress to the Champions League semi-final, and United may have to stump with a sum of around £60m to prise him away from the Dutch capital.
