Chelsea and Manchester United could go reportedly head-to-head to acquire the signature of James Rodriguez from Real Madrid at the end of the campaign.
The Colombia is currently concluding his second season on loan with Bayern Munich but there has been no indication from the Bundesliga side over the prospect of a permanent deal.
As such, it appears that he could be headed to the Bernabeu when the campaign concludes before he could be offloaded to another side during this summer’s transfer window.
According to The Express, Los Blancos Zinedine Zidane is quite clear of the intention of parting ways with the attacker with United and Chelsea among the probable contenders for his signature.
It is added that the Colombia international could be purchased at a cut-price fee of around £36m, but the decision over the next club will be left on the shoulders of the former Monaco man.
Chelsea are currently fearing the prospect of losing Eden Hazard to the outgoing European champions in the summer and they could use the same to their benefit to pursue Rodriguez in a part-exchange deal.
However, their current transfer ban limits them from doing so and the failure to delay or overcome the embargo could play into the hands of United, who are desperate for more creativity in their midfield ranks.
