Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that he will be without three players for the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Blues recently won the Super Cup against Villarreal, but it came at a cost with Hakim Ziyech dislocating his shoulder while N’Golo Kante picked up a niggle.
Ziyech has been ruled out for the derby, and Tuchel has now confirmed that Kante is also a major doubt for the game after an untimely injury in midweek.
Aside from the duo, the Blues will be missing the services of summer signing Romelu Lukaku. He won’t make his second debut for the club this weekend.
The Belgian’s transfer was announced on Thursday, but he is currently under quarantine. He is only expected to return to training at some time next week.
The Blues made a strong end to last season with Champions League glory. They recently added more silverware by beating Villarreal to the Super Cup title on penalties.
The momentum should be with the club and players. The Blues are regarded by many as the challengers to Manchester City for the Premier League title this term.
