Chelsea are working to reach a transfer agreement for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims.
The Blues are looking for a new centre-back this summer, and Kounde has emerged as their leading target.
They recently proposed a part-exchange deal worth €35m with Kurt Zouma moving the other way.
The proposal was rejected by the La Liga giants, who prefer to negotiate a straight-cash deal.
The Blues are still negotiating for the 22-year-old, and are keen on landing his services.
Kounde is valued at around €60m by Transfermarkt. He was linked with Tottenham Hotspur last month.
Spurs agreed a part-exchange deal involving Davinson Sanchez, but the move fell through.
Kounde rejected them due to the lack of Champions League football.
He has now agreed terms over a long-term deal with the Blues, and a deal could be finalised soon.
The Blues have had a quiet transfer window with Marcus Bettinelli being the sole signing.
There could be frantic activity in the coming weeks with a striker and centre-back among the priorities.
