Brazil international David Luiz is reportedly close to signing a contract extension with Chelsea following a series of discussions between the club and his representative.
The central defender currently has a contract with the west London side until June 2019 and there had recently been a suggestion that he may not sign a renewal, unless a multi-year deal is offered.
However, according to Goal.com, that does not seem the case and the former Paris Saint-Germain star seems poised to put pen-to-paper on a fresh 12-month contract with the Blues.
Luiz found himself on the fringes of the first-team squad during the previous campaign under Antonio Conte and this spread speculation that he could make way from the club in the summer.
But, the change of management has enhanced his gametime with the Blues and he is currently one of Sarri’s reliables after being nearly ever-present for the Premier League duties.
Preferably, Sarri had wanted both Cesc Fabregas and Luiz to commit for another season and it appears that his ambition could be fulfilled with the latter, who looks set to extend his stay beyond the summer.
