Chelsea have officially confirmed that they have parted ways with Cesc Fabregas in the current transfer window. The World Cup-winning Spaniard had just six months remaining on his existing deal with the Blues and this has eventually paved the way for him to join AS Monaco after the club refused to offer him more than a year’s extension.
Fabregas had been a key performer for the Blues in the past four seasons where he had helped the team win two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup.
However, he could not establish himself the same way under Maurizio Sarri and he managed just one Premier League start for the club prior to his confirmed departure.
At Monaco, Fabregas should be assured of the regular gametime he has been craving for but he can also expect a tougher challenge on his hands with the team currently lying in the drop zone.
The Principality outfit have surprisingly underperformed this campaign with the amount of injuries hampering the first-team squad and they are currently five points adrift of safety at the half-way stage.
