Arsenal have reportedly been linked with a surprise move for James Rodriguez, who is currently on a two-year loan deal with reigning German champions Bayern Munich.
The Colombia international joined Bayern from Real Madrid for the temporary stint during the summer of 2017 but he has since struggled to command a regular role with fitness concerns hampering him.
According to Don Balon, the Bundesliga holders are now prepared to cut short his loan move from Los Blancos and he could thereafter be the subject of interest from Unai Emery’s Arsenal.
It is added that the north London giants could be prepared to shatter their club-record to sign the Colombian with an offer of around €70m expected to be put on the table for Madrid to consider.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Danny Welbeck out injured for the moment, Arsenal are indeed short of senior attacking options in their ranks and they could do with another wide player.
However, it would be surprising, if the Gunners are to make an ambitious attempt for Rodriguez, given the significant transfer fees required as well as the recent injury record of the Colombian.
Rodriguez is currently with Bayern for their winter training camp in Doha but it remains to be seen whether he would remain in the club’s ranks when the transfer window concludes this month.
