Chelsea ready to confirm second winter signing after agreeing deal with European giants

Chelsea have reportedly made giant strides towards acquiring the signature of Gonzalo Higuain from AC Milan in the current transfer window.

A recent report claimed that the Blues may not make a winter approach for the Argentine amid the complexity in the discussions involving Juventus and loan club AC Milan.

However, according to The Sun, the transfer saga appears to have taken a different twist with Milan prepared to agree to a loan swap for Higuain with Alvaro Morata heading the other way.

Still, any permanent deal would have to be rubber stamped by the Bianconeri and that part of the move could be delayed until the conclusion of the current campaign.

Higuain has not enjoyed the best of seasons with Milan with just six goals in the Serie A but he has nonetheless caught the radar of Maurizio Sarri, who got the best out of his abilities during their time together at Napoli.

As such, there does not appear any hindrance in a mid-season deal going through between the sides but the proposed move could spell the end of Morata’s career with the west London giants.

Morata has simply failed to live up to the high expectations which brought him to the Bridge last term and the recent game versus Southampton seems to have ultimately frustrated the manager, who had been patient with him.

Similarly to Higuain, Morata has bagged just five goals in the Premier League but he has regularly been physically undone within the box – something which Higuain should cope much better with.
