Chelsea ready to make move for experienced West Ham United forward?

Chelsea have been linked with a surprise approach for West Ham United’s Marko Arnautovic with a deal for Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain looking far fetched at the moment.

Higuain had been earmarked as the Blues’ prime target to strengthen the frontline earlier last month but their prospects have diminished in recent days amid the complexity involved in negotiating with both Juventus and loan club AC Milan.

Owing to this, the club appear to be looking at other possible targets and according to Bleacher Report, Arnautovic is among those on their radar for the winter transfer window.

Arnautovic has generally featured in the wider positions for most of his Premier League career but with West Ham United, he has found success while leading the line on a regular basis.

The Austrian has already netted seven goals for the Hammers in the Premier League this term and two of those came during the recent 2-2 draw versus Brighton, which was only his second game after his injury comeback.

On reputation, the attacker does not garner the same attention as Olivier Giroud or Alvaro Morata but he can certainly do the job upfront with his strong hold-up play and directness – qualities which the above-mentioned strikers don’t possess individually.
