Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that he is positive about the club’s prospects of agreeing a new long-term contract with goalkeeper David de Gea.
The 28-year-old is currently contracted to the Red Devils until the summer of 2020 but United continue to hold the confidence that he will eventually pen a new long-term deal with the club.
Speaking in a press conference, Solskjaer said that he is growingly optimistic about an extension for De Gea, who has served the club for the past eight seasons.
He told MUTV: “I’m positive. Of course, with David, I’ve said many a time how lucky I am, and how happy we are, to have him in the goal. So we hope he stays here for many years.”
De Gea has already turned down a £300,000-a-week package from the Red Devils but reports have suggested that he could accept the club’s improved £350,000-a-week offer in the near future.
The Spaniard, who is currently on a £200,000-a-week salary with the Red Devils, is likely to earn a four-year deal with the Mancunian giants with the option of another 12 months.
