Manchester United ‘one step away’ from landing third summer signing for £67m, not Fernandes

Manchester United are reportedly ‘open step away’ from acquiring the signature of Sergej Milikovic-Savic from the ranks of Lazio, Sport Mediaset claims.

The Serbian was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer but Lazio’s demands for a £90m transfer fee diminished the Red Devils’ chances of landing him.

However, 12 months later, the Serie A side appear prepared to sanction the midfielder’s sale and reports suggest that the club’s president Claudio Lotito could take advantage of the London visit to hold talks with United.

The same publication claims that the Rome-based club are prepared to accept a reduced price of around £67m and will find out whether United are ready to pay the sum.

United are bracing for the potential exit of Pogba this summer and reports suggest that Real Madrid are planning to meet United’s £150m price tag through the sale of a few outcasts.

If that ends up the case, Milinkovic-Savic should seem a direct replacement for the Frenchman, given he has a strong physical presence and can contribute the odd goal/assist from the centre of the park.

Aside from the Serbian, United are also looking into a deal for Bruno Fernandes from Sporting and reports suggest that the Portuguese expects to join United before the transfer deadline.

Manchester United have made two signings during the ongoing transfer window with Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka joining them from Swansea City and Crystal Palace respectively.
