Chelsea have emerged as potential contenders to sign Arsenal target and Real Madrid star Martin Odegaard during the ongoing transfer window, Fichajes claims.
The Blues are actively searching for a new striker, but it has been reported that they could also pursue a creative midfielder in the coming weeks.
Leicester City’s James Maddison has been linked in the past, and it has now emerged that Odegaard could be of interest to the west London giants.
Madrid are open to sanctioning the Norwegian’s permanent exit this summer. He won’t come on the cheap with a reported price tag of 50 million euros.
The Gunners need to recoup funds before they can pursue his signature. The Blues stand the chance of gazumping their rivals’ pursuit of the midfielder.
Our view:
Odegaard spent the second half of last season on loan with the Gunners, registering two goals and as many assists from 20 games in all competitions.
He also played in the build-up to several more goals. It was a good stint for the 22-year-old, who had little time to adapt to the pace of the Premier League.
The Gunners are keen on re-signing him, but they could face competition from the Blues. Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in his services.
Mason Mount is currently the regular choice for the creative midfield role for the Blues, and he has done his job with good effect with regular goal contributions.
However, the Blues’ hierarchy are always searching for quality players to add to the ranks. The European champions are likely to push for the league title next term.
A move for Odegaard can’t be completely ruled out. A playmaker does not appear a necessity, but the Blues tend to come up surprises in the transfer market.

Instead of spending 50 million euro we better keep Joe Willock after all he did very well last season for Newcastle united than what Odegaard did in Arsenal shirt so let Arteta focus on other areas if possible let him bring Emiliano Martinez back that is the only area that has no one to compete for now with what Joe Willock did yesterday against Chelsea shows he is ready to surpass what he did last season for Newcastle united
