Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has issued a worrying injury update on Thomas Partey following the club’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on the road on Sunday.
The Ghana international made his comeback to first-team action after a month-long lay-off with a thigh problem, but he suffered a recurrence during the closing stages of the opening half.
As a result, he was substituted at the midway stage of the encounter and following the game, Arteta has issued a worrying update while hinting that he could be out for some period of time.
“It is an injury and it is in the same area unfortunately. We don’t know how bad it is. I was trying to push him but I don’t think he realised the gravity of the situation when he left his position but that was probably because he was in a lot of pain. It’s nothing we can do at the moment to resolve that,” He told.
Partey was initially not expected to return until mid-December at the least, but he started the derby after just one training session with the first-team on the eve of the clash.
It was always a huge gamble from Arteta and the club’s side and they have paid the price with the midfielder potentially out for another few games. The exact timescale for his recovery has not been mentioned.
Arsenal have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League and they are currently 15th on the table with just 13 points on the board. Their lack of goals has been a major concern. The club have scored just twice over the past seven top-flight games.
