Paul Merson: Arsenal will sack Unai Emery if this happens

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has said that Unai Emery could be dismissed from the head coach role at the Gunners, should the club lose to Leicester City this weekend.

The Spanish tactician has come under severe pressure from the fans due to the club’s form since the previous international break and the Gunners go into the Foxes clash with a six-point deficit to the top four.

This gap could further extend, should they succumb to a defeat to third-placed Leicester and Merson believes Emery may not remain at the helm with a negative result at the King Power Stadium.

The Gunners have won just one of their six matches since the previous international break and that was the 3-2 comeback win over Vitoria in Europe, where they were still disappointing with the overall performance.

In the space of less than a month, the Gunners have been guilty of squandering leads on four occasions and that does not make for good reading.

On Saturday, the Foxes are undoubtedly the much fancied side with their brilliant form in the Premier League and Emery has a tough task on his hands to get the best out of his Gunners side for the game.

Arsenal have the chance to close the gap to the top four to just three points with a victory. On the other hand, a defeat could see them drop nine points behind the Champions League places, suppose Chelsea win their game.
