Manchester United are scheduled to face Partizan Belgrade away from home in Thursday’s Europa League group stage game. The Red Devils have been pretty much average with their performances over the past month but they should go into the midweek game with some momentum after putting up a strong performance in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at the weekend.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Lineup:
David de Gea has not travelled with the team to Serbia and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that the Spaniard has been purely rested on the back of the recent thigh concern. Sergio Romero is expected to start in goal.
The defence should pretty much remain the same from the weekend but Solskjaer may go with the traditional four-man backline. Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire should make up the central defensive partnership with Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back while Brandon Williams may get the nod over Ashley Young at left-back after his promising performance against AZ Alkmaar, where he made his maiden start for the club.
In the midfield, Scott McTominay and Fred have earned their right to keep their places and the latter had one of his best games against Liverpool. The Brazilian has come for criticism for the tendency to be regularly dispossessed but he has shown improvements in that aspect in recent games.
In the attack, Daniel James could be offered a breather, given he has continuously played for club and country in the past three months. We are fancying Marcus Rashford to drop into the left wing position with Mason Greenwood on the right while Juan Mata may get the nod for the number 10 role.
Upfront, Anthony Martial could make his first start for the club since August. The Frenchman won’t necessarily last the entire game and he will still prove a worthwhile option, given his directness and better finishing skills than Rashford.
