Chelsea FC legend Ashley Cole has said that midfielder Mason Mount has the potential to be a world-class player for the club in the future.
The England youth international has become an integral part of Frank Lampard’s plans this season and he scored in just his second Premier League game against Leicester City last weekend.
Though the match only ended 1-1 draw, Cole was impressed with the quality showcased by the 20-year-old, who spent the previous season on loan with Derby County under Lampard.
“He can play anywhere in the midfield, right, left, holding because his range of passing is so good. He needs to know when to slow the game down, everything doesn’t have to be 100mph. He can potentially be world-class but he obviously has a lot to learn.” he told Sky Sports, via The Express.
Mount was widely expected to make his breakthrough with the Blues this term and he did not disappoint after a solid pre-season ahead of the new campaign.
While the pre-season does not provide the perfect example of one’s skills, Mount has certainly proved that he can make it at the highest level and it remains to be seen whether he can find the consistency required.
The England youth international has the tendency to rush things when he is in and around the box, and hopefully, he can find better composure and decision-making to become a permanent feature in the starting XI.
