Manchester United are reportedly prepared to make an official offer to acquire the signature of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting this summer.
The Portuguese has been earmarked as United’s prime target to strengthen the midfield which has a void after the recent departure of Ander Herrera.
According to O Jogo, United are ready to step up their interest in the midfielder and they will make a formal £49m in the coming hours for the 24-year-old.
However, it is added that Sporting are likely to reject the advances, given they are reluctant to accept anything less than £70m for the versatile midfielder.
Fernandes, who can play in both the central and attacking midfield roles, had a sensational season with Sporting last term and he contributed 20 goals and 13 assists in the league alone.
Previously, it was indicated that Tottenham Hotspur could rival United in the player’s pursuit, but that no longer is the case with the north London side unlikely to meet Sporting’s demands.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has recently suggested that the club won’t pay over the odds for any player, but the need of the moment may eventually see them accept to Sporting’s demands.
