Manchester United ready to make £72m move for 24-year-old midfielder, not Fernandes

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to make a bid of around £72m to secure the signature of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio this summer.

The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new central midfielder after witnessing the departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini in the past six months.

Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes has been earmarked as the leading target for the club in recent weeks, but according to Sky Italia, via The Express, United are also said to hold an interest in Milinkovic-Savic.

The same publication reveals that United could offer as much as £72m for the midfielder, although the sum may not be sufficient to land the Serbian’s signature.

At present, Lazio are understood to want at least £90m for their prized asset and that could prove a stumbling block for United, given they are reluctant to pay over the odds for any player.

Elsewhere, Milinkovic-Savic is said to be content to remain with Lazio for another 12 months at the least, and United cannot bank on the player trying to push through a move away from Stadio Olimpico.
