Manchester United clear to agree transfer deal for £80,000-a-week star

Manchester United have been offered a clear route to land the signature of Harry Maguire from Leicester City after Manchester City dropped their interest in pursuing the England international.

The centre-back had been the subject of £70m bids from both United and City earlier in the month but the Foxes decided to knock back the advances from both Manchester clubs.

According to 90min, the Citizens have bowed out of the hunt for Maguire after declining to make a fresh approach to sign the former Sheffield United graduate.

However, that does not remain the case with the Red Devils, who are prepared to make a renewed offer for the services of the England international.

The Foxes were initially aiming to demand as much as £90m for the defender but reports suggest that they could now settle for a sum above the £75m world-record package paid by Liverpool for Virgil van Dijk.

Maguire had recently been said to hold the preference to join the Citizens, but 90min claims that he has no concerns linking up with the Red Devils, given he is eager to secure a big-club move this summer.

Maguire, who earns a salary package of £80,000-a-week at Leicester City, has four years remaining on his contract. He made 32 appearances for the Foxes last term.
