From Italy: Manchester United make fresh move to sign £45m-rated defender

Manchester United are understood to have renewed their interest in Nikola Milenkovic amid their prolonged negotiations to land Harry Maguire from Leicester City this summer.

According to Gianluca di Marzio, the Red Devils are said to have returned for the services of Milenkovic following a failed attempt during the winter transfer window.

The same report adds that the club had made a bid in the region of £36m for the defender in January 2019, but the offer was rebuffed as it was below the £45m asking price of the Serie A outfit.

At present, United have not found the breakthrough with regards to the transfer deal for Maguire and they have already failed with a couple of bids with the highest being £70m.

Nonetheless, there remains the optimism that an improved offer of £75m could be sufficient to land Maguire and that may end any interest in Milenkovic, who was one of Jose Mourinho’s targets before being sacked.

Aside from Milenkovic, United have been linked with a move for compatriot Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio, but their prospects of signing him remain slim with Lazio demanding as much as £90m.
