Chelsea FC serious about signing £133m La Liga star ahead of Manchester United

Chelsea FC are reportedly serious about the prospect of luring Philippe Coutinho back to the Premier League ahead of arch-rivals Manchester United.

Coutinho’s future at the Camp Nou has been brought into question after an unfruitful 18 months and reports have suggested that he could make a potential return to the north of England with the Red Devils.

However, in the same period, the Blues have also been associated with his services, considering they are bracing for the departure of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid this summer.

According to Gianluca di Marzio via Sportsmole, the Blues are said to hold a keen interest in signing Coutinho as they seek to replace Hazard in their ranks ahead of next season.

It is further stated that they could be prepared to match the Blaugrana’s £133m asking price for the attacker, but the deal would largely depend on whether they can overcome their transfer ban.

The Blues are presently banned from registering players for the next two transfer windows and they have failed an appeal to FIFA regarding the same.

They are expected to appeal for the same sanction at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and that may offer them with the chance to freeze the ban and make the most of the summer to rebuild the squad.
