Arsenal set to make improved offer to sign Alexis ahead of European rivals

Arsenal are reportedly prepared to make a fresh transfer offer to acquire the signature of Alexis Claude-Maurice from Lorient this summer.

The 21-year-old has been building his reputation with the Ligue 2 side in recent times and he has caught the eye of the Gunners after contributing 14 goals during the previous campaign.

According to GFFN, the Gunners are said to have failed with an initial £6.2m move for the attacker and they are now prepared to make a renewed £11.5m proposal for his services.

However, Lorient are still being fancied to reject the approach, considering they are looking for an initial fee of around £13m amid the widespread interest from the likes of Monaco and Lille.

Alexis is generally a winger by trade but he has also operated centrally for Lorient. As such, he suits the criteria for a versatile forward in the Gunners ranks and the club could yet utilise their good association with Lorient to land his signature.

The north London giants secured the services of Matteo Guendouzi in a surprise move from Lorient last summer and they will be hoping that they can recruit another promising prospect from the French outfit without going into a bidding battle.
