Manchester United could reportedly go head-to-head with Manchester City in the race to sign Benfica teenager Joao Felix this summer.
The Red Devils have gone through a difficult 2018/19 season where they could only finish sixth in the league, and that is expected to trigger a significant rebuild this summer.
According to The Sun, the Citizens have expressed an interest in signing Felix and they could be prepared to trigger his hefty £105m release clause in the current transfer window.
However, they are expected to face stiff competition from cross-town rivals United, who are likewise prepared to match the escape clause present in the attacker’s contract.
Felix has enjoyed a sensational campaign by his standards with Benfica and his tally of 18 goals and eight assists helped the Primeira Liga side reclaim the league title.
As such, various Portuguese outlets have already dubbed him as the next Cristiano Ronaldo and it remains to be seen whether he will make the Premier League move this summer.
Comparing United and City, the latter may have the edge in signing the youngster, given they have the assurance of playing in the Champions League next term.
Still, there remains no guarantee of regular starts with the numerous star-studded attacking options in the City ranks and that could offer United with the chance of luring the highly-rated Portuguese ace.
Felix has recently been called up to the Portugal national side for the very first time and he could feature against Switzerland during the semi-final phase of the Nations League next month.
