Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Man City vs Chelsea FC

BBC football expert Mark Lawrenson has given his prediction for the forthcoming Premier League clash between Manchester City and Chelsea FC at the Etihad Stadium.

The Cityzens saw their three-match winning league streak come to an end with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool and they are now nine points adrift of the Reds, who are at the top of the table.

In comparison, the Blues celebrated a sixth-straight win before the international break and that sees them one point ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side in the standings while occupying the fourth spot.

Despite the different fortunes of the clubs, Lawrenson believes the Cityzens should prevail with a victory over Frank Lampard’s side, given they are generally defeat to beat in front of their supporters.

“Chelsea have won their past six Premier League games and are obviously going extremely well. But I would always back Manchester City when they are at home against another big club. They often seem to find an extra gear in them, and they very rarely lose them,” he told.

Lawrenson has predicted a 2-0 win for the Cityzens and they would certainly need to earn such a result, given they have kept one clean sheet in the past six matches in all competitions.

Lampard’s side will no doubt threaten their backline which has conceded 13 times already this term but the Citizens would likewise have the opportunity to exploit any slight weakness in the Blues defence.
