Chelsea FC are reportedly ahead of Manchester United in the race to pursue Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer. The Serbian has been a revelation for the German side this term and he has already contributed 27 goals and six assists across all competitions.
According to Football.London, both Chelsea and United are in the running to sign the former Benfica man, but the former are said to hold the edge with Champions League football at their disposal.
Jovic has been instrumental towards Eintracht Frankfurt’s top-four push in the Bundesliga this term, but the club’s recent run of poor form has meant that they have dropped one point behind the Champions League places.
Frankfurt are scheduled to face Bayern Munich on the road during the final gameweek of the season, and barring a positive result with favours from other sides, they look set to miss out on the elite competition.
As such, it appears very much likely that the Serbian will pursue a bigger challenge elsewhere, but Chelsea for the moment can’t seal the deal with a two-window transfer ban imposed on them.
Still, there remains plenty of optimism that the Court of Arbitration for Sport will at least freeze the embargo with the anticipated appeal this month, and that should provide them with time to complete meaningful business.
