Manchester United are working on personal terms over a new long-term contract for Bruno Fernandes, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims.
The Portuguese has been a revelation for the Red Devils since arriving from Sporting in January last year. He has bagged 43 goals and 25 assists from just 81 games.
Fernandes started the current campaign with a stunning hat-trick against Leeds United, and it is now reported that talks are underway over a new and improved deal.
The midfielder still has four years left on his £180,000-a-week contract with the option for another 12 months, but United are keen to reward him for his efforts.
The hierarchy have the contract extension as their top priority. Fernandes is happy to stay and talks are ongoing over the salary raise for the upcoming renewal.
United are scheduled to face Southampton on the road on Sunday. Fernandes will have another key role to play as the Red Devils aim to return to the top of the table.
The Red Devils put nine goals past the Saints in the previous meeting at Old Trafford. They are unlikely to repeat the feat, but are firm favourites for the encounter.
