Chelsea defender Reece James could be sidelined with a knee injury when the Blues take on West Ham United in the Premier League on Monday night.
The right-back was the Blues’ best player in the recent 1-0 defeat to Everton, but had a lesser influence against Wolverhampton Wanderers, where his side lost by a 2-1 scoreline.
He was nursing a minor knee injury back then and The Athletic reports that the level of discomfort has increased and that may require a surgery which could him out of action for a while.
James has started in 11 of the club’s 13 Premier League matches this term and he has made the right-back position his own ahead of club-captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
He has bagged one goal and two assists this term. He has also been solid with his defensive play with key tackles and interceptions and will be a huge loss for the Blues if sidelined.
As things stand, he is a major doubt to face the Hammers. It is suggested that he could still play against the east London outfit, but there is the risk of aggravating the knee injury.
