Manchester United have the opportunity to secure a third successive win in all competitions when they tackle Chelsea FC in the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday.
The Red Devils have recently gathered momentum with a couple of away triumphs over Partizan and Norwich City and they now have the chance of registering another win on the road to progress to the quarter-final stage of the Cup competition.
Formation: 3-4-1-2
Predicted Lineup:
David de Gea has not travelled with the Red Devils for the London trip and his absence should witness Sergio Romero start in goal. The Argentine has kept two clean sheets from three appearances this term.
In the defence, Solskjaer may want additional assurance particularly with the form of the likes of the Blues attackers over the past seven games in particular.
As such, a three-man central backline seems the way to go. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are no doubt definite starters and they could be accompanied by Marcos Rojo – similarly to the Liverpool clash this month.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has become the undisputed choice on the right side of the defence and in this case, he should feature in the right wing-back position.
On the other end, Brandon Williams should get the edge over Ashley Young, considering he would provide an energetic presence to cope with the trickery and direct running from the likes of Hudson-Odoi.
In the midfield, there are no selection doubts. Scott McTominay and Fred are definite starters and the latter has earned his spot after putting up strong displays against Liverpool and Norwich of late.
In the attack front, Andreas Pereira may get the nod over someone like Daniel James, given he can drop deep in the midfield while equally contributing in the attack with his link-up play.
Ahead of him, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford could be paired together and they will have found memories after bagging three of the four goals during the 4-0 drubbing of Chelsea in the league opener in August.
