Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard has heaped praise on Christian Pulisic after he produced one of his best displays since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund.
The USA international has managed just 10 minutes of playing time in the past four league games and he was once restricted to a bench role against Newcastle United.
Still, that did not hamper his confidence and the attacker produced a lively second half performance off the bench where he nearly found the net, barring a superb block from the Magpies keeper.
Speaking after the game, Lampard said that the fans may have been carried away by the price tag of the 21-year-old and he is pleased that the winger came up with a strong showing.
He told: “I’m really pleased for him. He’s a hot topic because of the price tag. Because of his status in his national team, and his world status through that. And everyone has got a little bit carried away with the short term.”
The Blues boss added that there is plenty to come from the young attacker, who recently celebrated his 21st birthday, he continued: “The long term is that he’s come here and he’s just turned 21 and to see him play like he did today, and there’s a lot more to come.”
Chelsea FC’s 1-0 triumph over Newcastle United has taken them to the fourth position in the standings at least on a temporary basis. They could be leapfrogged by Arsenal on Monday night.
