Chelsea have been fancied to make a move to sign one of the Premier League’s highest-rated forwards, should they manage to overcome their transfer ban by the turn of the year.
The Blues decided against applying a freeze on a year-long transfer embargo and that meant that they went through the summer transfer window without the possibility of registering any new players.
According to The Sun, the west London giants are optimistic that they can escape their ban by the New Year after making an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The same publication suggests that the Blues are aware of the recent transfer transfer saga surrounding Zaha and they may make an attempt to land his signature when the transfer window reopens.
Zaha was linked with both Arsenal and Everton during the transfer window but the Eagles’ reluctance to reduce on their £80m asking price meant that the clubs pursued other targets.
While Arsenal were able to land Zaha’s compatriot Nicolas Pepe from Lille, Everton managed to push through a deal for Alex Iwobi from the Gunners themselves – just before the transfer deadline.
As such, both sides seem unlikely to revisit their interest in Zaha during mid-season and that could pave the way for Lampard’s side to land his services, suppose the transfer ban is nullified.
Chelsea were not able to pursue a replacement for Eden Hazard this summer, but Christian Pulisic has been fancied to take charge of the left wing duties after joining the club formally in pre-season.
The United States international was formally announced as a Blues player during the last winter transfer window but he was permitted to return to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the 2018/19 season.
