Manchester United are understood to be on the cusp of signing defender Harry Maguire from Leicester City after settling on a £80m package to sign the central defender.
The Red Devils have been desperate to land the defender’s signature in the past month and reports have previously indicated that they had failed with an opening bid worth £70m.
Still, there has been the assumption that it would only be a matter of time before the defender makes the switch to Old Trafford and Bleacher Report’s Dean Jones has now claimed that an agreement has been sorted.
The structure of the deal has not been revealed but the Red Devils are set to part with a sum of around £80m, which would break the record for the most expensive defender signing in world fooball.
Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk currently holds the feat after his £75m move to Liverpool from Southampton at the midway stage of the 2017/18 campaign.
United have landed the signatures of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka to date and Maguire’s arrival could be followed by a couple of more signings with Bruno Fernandes and Nicolas Pepe on the club’s radar.
