Manchester United set to make £44.8m move for Premier League defender, not Harry Maguire

Mancheste United are reportedly planning to make a formal approach to land the signature of defender Issa Diop from West Ham United.

The Red Devils are on the search for a new centre-back this summer and so far, they have been linked with the likes of Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly.

However, neither of those players are likely to be available for anything less than £90m and Sport Witness reveals that the club have an alternative signing planned in Diop.

The 22-year-old had an impressive debut season with West Ham United in the Premier League last term, where he made 33 appearances and scored one goal in the process.

The Hammers are understood to hold no plans of sanctioning his sale but reports claim that United are ready to test their resolve with an opening bid worth £44.8m.

The sum represents double of the package paid by the Hammers to recruit him from Toulouse last summer, though it remains to be seen whether it would be sufficient to persuade the club into a sale.
