Chelsea FC are reportedly keen on securing the signature of Mateo Kovacic on a permanent basis after an impressive loan stint with the club during the previous campaign.
The Croatia international was a regular feature under ex-Blues boss Maurizio Sarri during the previous campaign and he racked a total of 51 appearances across all competitions.
According to Spanish outlet Marca via Sport Witness, the Blues have the chance of signing Kovacic on a permanent basis this summer despite the two-window transfer ban sanctioned by FIFA.
The same publication claims that the west London giants would be willing to match Los Blancos’ £49m price tag for the midfielder after being satisfied with his showing through the 2018/19 campaign.
Kovacic remains contracted with the Blues until the end of the current month and the club seem to hold the option of signing him, considering he has already been registered with the team.
The Blues have a similar situation with respect to Juventus’ Gonzalo Higuain but they are likely to snub a permanent move, given the Argentine’s temporary stint was orchestrated by Sarri.
The Capital outfit never seemed keen on pursuing Higuain at the beginning of the previous campaign and reports have emerged that the Argentine may stay put with Juventus instead to reunite with Sarri for the third occasion.
