Arsenal finally reach agreement with Serie A giants for the transfer of 30-year-old star

Arsenal have eventually reached an agreement with Napoli for the permanent transfer of goalkeeper David Ospina this summer. The Colombian spent the previous campaign on loan in Naples and he is now on the cusp of penning a long-term deal with the Serie A side.

According to Rai SPORT’s Ciro Venerato, the Gunners have managed to agree on the €4m transfer fee discussed last summer despite the fact that Napoli avoided triggering an obligatory buy clause.

Ospina had to make a total of 25 appearances during the previous season for Napoli to compulsorily trigger the buy option but they managed to avoid the same by restricting the 30-year-old to just 24 games.

This had been identified as a potential tactic to discuss a much lesser fee with the Gunners, but they seem to have finally accepted to the prior demands from the north London side.

With the permanent departure of Ospina, Emiliano Martinez appears the outright choice to take up the back-up duties behind Bernd Leno, considering Petr Cech will retire when his contract expires this month.
