Personal terms agreed, Arsenal close to completing signing of £27m star

Arsenal have reportedly agreed personal terms with defender William Saliba ahead of a potential swoop for his services in the current transfer window.

The 18-year-old made his breakthrough with Saint-Etienne during the 2018/19 campaign and he caught plenty of attention with his 16 appearances in the French top-flight.

According to Foot Mercato, the north London side are closing in on the signing of the central defender after agreeing personal terms over a five-year contract.

Still, the club are yet to finalise a transfer sum with Saint-Etienne but reports indicate that they are likely to meet the French club’s £27m asking price for the youngster.

Should a deal be finalised, it is suggested that the Gunners may have to wait for at least one season to integrate the defender into the squad, considering Saint-Etienne want to keep him on loan for next term.

In such a case, the transfer move does not seem beneficial to aiding the club’s defensive woes but there are positives from the fact that the teenager may prove a shrewd piece of business in years to come.
