Chelsea have held fresh talks with the representatives of Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
The Frenchman had an impressive breakout season last term, bagging three goals and four assists from 43 outings.
The 21-year-old also excelled in a defensive point of view with an average of 3.5 tackles, as per Whoscored.
His progress has caught the eye of top European clubs with Manchester United recently joining the race.
The Red Devils have made initial contact with his agents ahead of a potential move.
This has alerted the Blues, who have held fresh talks with the player’s entourage.
The Blues have identified Tchouameni as a potential alternative to West Ham United’s Declan Rice.
They appear unlikely to pursue Rice at the moment with the focus on Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.
It does not seem that they will make more than two marquee signings this summer.
I they land Kounde, they could look to pursue a defensive midfielder at a much lower cost.
Tchouameni is just a year younger than Rice, but he could cost significantly less.
The defensive midfielder is currently valued at around 30 million euros by Transfermarkt.
With three years left on his contract, Monaco remain in a strong position to negotiate.
A fee of around 45 million euros could seriously test their resolve before the deadline.
