Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a fresh injury update on midfielder Thomas Partey ahead of Sunday’s late Premier League clash against Burnley at home.
The Ghana international was out for more than a month with a thigh problem, but he was deemed fit to start the north London derby last weekend after just one first-team training session.
However, the decision proved costly for Arteta and the backroom staff as the midfielder suffered a recurrence of the same injury during the first half and he was substituted at the interval.
It is well known that Partey won’t return to action for the weekend game. Arteta has now confirmed the midfielder is nursing a similar injury and could be out for ‘a few games’.
“Thomas will be out for a few games. It is the same area where he got injured previously, he felt it again and we will have to see how long it is going to take to heal,” He said via Arsenal.com.
The Gunners are currently experiencing their worst-ever start to a Premier League season after 11 games and they have picked up just one point from the previous four matches.
The lack of goals has been a major concern for them. They have found the back of the net on just two occasions over the previous seven league encounters.
Arteta will be hoping that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or any one else in the squad can step up and provide the much-needed win on Sunday for the club to climb up the table.
The north London giants are currently placed 15th in the standings, already 11 points behind league leaders Tottenham Hotspur and eight adrift of the Champions League spots.
