Mark Lawrenson predicts FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea

BBC Football expert Mark Lawrenson has stated his prediction for the FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Both teams won their final games of the Premier League campaign last weekend, but the Blues would have been more pleased with their result as they secured Champions League football for next season.

The Gunners, on the other hand, only finished eighth on the table, and it was a season to forget for them as they managed their worst points tally and position in 25-years.

Still, the league form goes out of the window in the FA Cup final and Lawrenson has backed Mikel Arteta’s side to win the Wembley showdown by a 1-0 scoreline.

“Arteta has not just brought a kind of feel-good factor back to the club since taking charge in December, he has shored them up,” He was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

That’s not to say Chelsea are not dangerous too. I just feel like Arsenal have got more momentum and confidence at the moment, but otherwise it is difficult to split the two sides.”

Arsenal have won the FA Cup for a record 13 occasions while Chelsea have the famous old trophy eight times. The duo have previously met twice in the final of the competition and both of those games have gone in the Gunners’ favour.

However, it can’t be forgotten that the Blues humbled the Gunners with a 4-1 victory in the Europa League final in Baku last year and they have an equal chance of winning the trophy as their London rivals.
