Michael Owen has stated his prediction for Wednesday’s Premier League clash between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield.
The Reds won the title with seven games to spare, but their form has since been average with just seven points from the past five games.
In comparison, the Blues have also remained inconsistent with their displays, but they have fared slightly better with nine points in this period.
Frank Lampard’s side go into Wednesday’s game on the back of a morale-boosting 3-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester United, but Owen has still backed the Reds to come up with the three points.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are winless in the last two league games, but Owen feels his former side will come up with a strong display against the Blues, particularly with the trophy presentation after the match.
The Merseyside outfit managed a hard-fought 2-1 win over the west London side in the reverse meeting last year and Owen fancies a similar scoreline at Anfield.
Chelsea are currently one point ahead of both Leicester City and Manchester United on the table, but the Foxes have just one game left for the season.
A victory against the Reds would guarantee their Champions League group stage berth for next season.
It remains to be seen whether they can become the first side since April 2017 to beat the Merseyside outfit in a league game on their home turf.
