Lyon sporting director Juninho has revealed that Manchester United will have the priority to re-sign Memphis Depay, should the Dutchman decided to part ways with the club in the future.
The Netherlands international had a frustrating 18-month spell at Old Trafford between 2015 and 2017 where he managed just seven goals and six assists for the club.
He has since transformed into a different player with Les Gones and has amassed 50 goals and 42 assists from just 130 appearances across all competitions.
Recently, there has been speculation that Depay could seek a bigger challenge away from the Groupama Stadium and when quizzed about the same, Juninho stated that United have the first option to sign the attacker.
“Manchester has a priority if several clubs line up to buy him. But we have not received any offers so far. He is really happy right now in Lyon,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.
Depay, who is valued at £40.5m via Transfermarkt, has recently welcomed the possibility of returning to the Premier League and it is unclear whether he would entertain a return to the Theatre of Dreams.
He had an unpleasant first stint with the club where he faced criticism from a section of the fans and it will be interesting to see whether he wants a chance at redemption when he considers a move away from Lyon.
