Former Chelsea FC star Joe Cole believes Frank Lampard made one mistake during the backend of the Blues’ 2-2 Champions League draw against Valencia on Wednesday night.
Jorginho clearly did not have the best of games against Los Che and he handed the Spanish side with a penalty in the second half which was saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
As a result, he was brought off from the playing field in the 72nd minute when the scores were 2-1 but the Blues could not hold onto their advantage with Daniel Wass netting a stunning freak goal 10 minutes later.
Los Che thereafter had the chance to even win the game but it was not meant to be after Rodrigo Moreno squandered an easy tap-in in injury time with seconds left on the clock.
Following the game, Cole was unimpressed with one decision made by Lampard and said that Jorginho should have remained for a little longer despite being on a yellow card.
“I really think not having Jorginho on the pitch for the last 20 minutes, when they needed a clear head [was a mistake]. Parejo was getting on the ball, maybe that’s where Jorginho would have stepped onto him, just for five minutes,” he told BT Sport.
The Italy international has under-performed for two games on the bounce but for a player of his quality, he should return to his old self in a short space of time.
Chelsea are scheduled to face West Ham United at home this weekend and Jorginho will most certainly take up one of the midfield positions. N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic could line up alongside him once again.
