‘I didn’t know he was so good’, Mateo Kovacic praises Chelsea FC star’s quality

Chelsea FC midfielder Mateo Kovacic has heaped praise on fellow Blues midfielder Jorginho, who has been splendid with his distribution through the first half of the current season.

The Italy international joined the west London giants from Napoli last summer but he was not a favourite among most of the fans, considering N’Golo Kante had to feature in an advanced position to allow him to play in the holding role.

The same has remained the case this season even after the change in managers but Jorginho has been offered with more freedom by Frank Lampard to find regular passes to the frontmen.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Kovacic was full of praise for his midfield compatriot and said that he has been amazed with the quality exhibited by the former Napoli man.

“I watched Jorginho when he was at Napoli, when we played against each other, but I think now he is getting even better,” the Croatian said. “He is a great player. I didn’t know he was so good, but when you train with him you see it. I’m enjoying it, I think he is as well, and we need to keep working on that.” he told.

In his debut season last term, Jorginho had nearly a 90% success rate in his passing but he was disappointing in terms of the forward contribution as he failed to register a single assist.

That statistic has changed this season with already a couple of assists in the bag and he most recently delivered one of the highlights of the campaign as he split the defence with a sublime 30-yard pass for Tammy Abraham’s goal.
